There are several different accounts on how Two Notch Road recieved its name. The story above is what we can assume to be the most reliable, a large sycamore tree with two notches used as a landmark and as a highway marker. For this reason the symbolic sycamore tree, as depicted in the Two Notch Road Association logo was chosen to designate that part of the city's history.

Two Notch Road has been a diverse shopping and ever-changing commercial district for over 100 years. Transitioning from one of Columbia's busiest thoroughfares, the business climate is one that offers a reason for the formation of the Two Notch Road Merchants association. Together, this group is committed to the development of businesses and the asthetics of the community and the surrounding neighborhoods.
